Welcome to the Family Literacy Program at South Central LAMP, where we prioritize the education and well-being of mothers with children aged 0 to 5 years old through immersive, in-person experiences. Our program is multifaceted, consisting of four weekly components:
The ESL program is designed to equip participants with language skills for personal, vocational, academic, and citizenship purposes. Our competency-based courses seamlessly integrate listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, empowering individuals to fully participate in society and advocate for their children.
Going beyond traditional methods, our parenting classes embrace a holistic approach that considers the well-being of both parents and children. We not only impart essential parenting skills but also emphasize the importance of mental, emotional, and relational aspects within the family dynamic. By addressing a wide spectrum of topics, we empower parents with a comprehensive understanding of effective parenting for the individual and collective flourishing of the family unit.
Children of mothers enrolled in our Family Literacy Program participate in our California State Preschool Program or our Infant and Toddlers Early Education Program based on their age. The California State Preschool Program offers high-quality education for 3 to 5 year olds, prioritizing school readiness and academic preparedness. Our infant and toddlers’ early childhood education program creates a secure and nurturing learning environment.
Encouraging mothers and their young children to participate in enriching activities together, these carefully designed sessions create a supportive learning environment. Through storytelling, arts and crafts, and play-based activities, the Parent-Child Interactive Literacy sessions aim to strengthen the parent-child bond while promoting the child’s cognitive, social, and emotional development.
In addition to the four program components, mothers participating in the Family Literacy program benefit from valuable services and referrals through our dedicated in-house family advocate. Serving as a key point of contact, our family advocate ensures that mothers have access to personalized assistance, guidance, and connections to external services, enhancing the overall impact and effectiveness of our comprehensive program. This holistic support addresses the unique needs and challenges of each family within our community, further reinforcing our commitment to empowering families.
At South Central LAMP, our comprehensive approach not only addresses the linguistic and educational needs of mothers but also fosters the holistic growth of children, establishing a firm foundation for their future success in both school and life. This program reflects our unwavering commitment to empowering families and building a resilient community that recognizes and values the significance of literacy and education.
